Getting on with what matters, no matter what!
Wouldn’t it be great if we could all do the stuff we enjoy and value most, without having to stress and worry? Without doubting our ability, or ever feeling urges to do unhelpful things?
Sorry! Life quite often doesn’t work like that!
Everyday problems, doubts, and uncomfortable thoughts and feelings happen to all of us - the question is whether we let them get in the way of us doing the things we really value.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (or ACT for short, said as the word ‘act’ not A-C-T) is a way of helping people work out what matters most in life while dealing more effectively with the stuff that gets in the way.
Its all about choosing the path we want to follow, and learning how to get better at sticking to it, rather than cruising on autopilot, or being driven by unhelpful thoughts or urges to behave in ways we don’t really want.
